Computing & Functional Skills ICT

Computing courses

We offer a range of computing courses, from Computer Beginners to ECDL Extra. Our courses are held at a range of venues across Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole at different times of the day and evening. These courses are not fully funded by the government and some learners will need to pay a fee to attend these courses.

Computer Beginners

A three-week short course for learners who have no experience of using computers and wish to develop basic computing skills. There is no exam or assessment. Learners may enrol directly onto this course – telephone 01202 262300.

Functional Skills Information and Communication Technology E2-E3

A fourteen-week course for learners with little experience of using computers. This course will help you to develop skills such as:

  • Searching for information on the Internet
  • Sending emails
  • Word processing
  • File management
  • Presenting and communicating information using IT

You will complete an assessment in the classroom as part of your course.

IT Essentials L1 – L2

A nineteen-week (or nine-week intensive) course for learners with some experience of using a computer, who wish to further develop their skills. This course will cover topics such as:

  • Word Processing
  • Spreadsheets
  • Presenting and communicating information using IT
  • Improving productivity using IT

You will be assessed via a portfolio of evidence compiled throughout the course.

ECDL Extra (L2)

A nineteen-week course for learners who are more experienced at using a computer and who wish to gain a well respected qualification. The course covers the following four modules:

  • Word Processing
  • Presentation Skills
  • Spreadsheets
  • Improving Productivity

You will take an exam at the end of each module.

In order to enrol on any of our accredited ICT courses, you will need to contact our Customer Services team on 01202 262300 to book onto an enrolment session.

At the enrolment session you will be asked to complete an ICT assessment and self-assessment checklist. If you do not have an English qualification at Level 1 or above you may be asked to complete a short English assessment task.

You will then receive further information and advice and have the opportunity to ask questions about the course.
